Honorable Lane Evans
United States House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20510-1302

Dear Congressman Evans:

On behalf of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), I am pleased to express support for your bill, H. R. 2725, the Federal Contractor Safety and Health Enforcement Act of 1995. AIHA sent a similar letter to Senator Simon supporting his bill, S. 781.

As a means of introduction, AIHA is the world's largest association of occupational and environmental hygiene professionals. The membership of AIHA, nearly 12,000 individuals, comes from government, labor, industry, academia and private business. You would be hard-pressed to find a more diverse professional organization dedicated solely to the prevention of workplace fatalities, injury and illness. AIHA's goal is to bring "good science" and the benefit of our workplace experience to the public policy process directed at worker health and safety.

In reviewing your bill, I can assure you that AIHA supports your efforts to prohibit any federal entity from entering into any contract with contractors who have violated the provisions of the OSH Act. Enactment of your legislation would go a long way to prevent the abusers of health and safety standards from receiving federal contracts, and would act as an incentive for businesses seeking federal contracts to maintain high standards of workplace safety. I commend your efforts.

Thank you for your time and consideration. In the future, should you or your staff require our assistance, please do not hesitate to call on us.

Sincerely,

Vernon E. Rose, DrPH, CIH
President
