- Federal Contractors and Violations of Labor Law
October 24, 1995 General Accounting Office report identifying federal contracts awards to employers who have violated the National Labor Relations Act. The GAO found that 80 firms had violated the act and received over $23 billion, about 13 percent of the $182 billion in federal contracts awarded in fiscal year 1993. (425 KB)
- Violations of Safety and Health Regulations by Federal Contractors
August 23, 1996 General Accounting Office report which determined how many companies receiving federal contracts had also been assessed with penalties for violations of OSHA regulations. The study was limited to FY1994 and found 261 federal contractors who were the parent companies with worksites at which OSHA had assessed proposed penalties exceeding $15,000. (611 KB)
- OSHA's Inspection Database
December 30, 1996 General Accounting Office supplemental report that responds to criticism regarding the method used by GAO to interpret OSHA's IMIS database in the development of their August 23, 1996 report "Violations of Safety and Health Regulations by Federal Contractors." This supplemental report has not been widely circulated by the GAO. OSHA DATA is referenced in a footnote to the report. (635 KB)
- Efforts to Obtain Establishment-Specific Data on Injuries and Illnesses
May 22, 1998 General Accounting Office report which evaluated OSHA's efforts to gather employer-specific injury and illness rate information as part of it's so-called "Data Collection Initiative." The GAO found that OSHA has failed to utilize the data for its intended purpose as pledged before launching the data collection survey. The report also concluded that employer provided data is not confidential and must be disclosed under FOIA. (645 KB)

November 22, 2002 General Accounting Office report which assess how well OSHA was able to target its enforcement resources on
hazardous worksites, measure its accomplishments, and ensure inspection staff quality (784 KB).
